A couple of weeks ago I suggested to my parents that we start a new tradition where we have breakfast first thing in the morning and open gifts. My brother is married, so he and my sister-in-law usually spend some of the day with her family and Allen and I spend some of the day with his family. This way we would for sure get to spend a good portion of the morning with our parents which means the world to me and I hate to even have to leave them on Christmas day at all. So after mentioning this to my parents, my dad told me that he had already thought of this and had decided to invite my grandparents over for Christmas morning breakfast.
Christmas morning came and since we had celebrated Christmas with my Mom's side of the family the night before, I wasn't that eager to wake up extra early and get fixed up for breakfast with my family. So I sauntered downstairs in my snowflake pajamas, neglecting makeup and any attention to my hair.
My brother and sister-in-law arrived and we started our gift exchange. We got my Dad a grill just like my brother's and Allen's and we got my Mom a new point-n-shoot camera that's the same quality as my canon rebel xsi. Each of us kids got a little something with some Christmas cash thrown in for good measure.
Eventually my grandparents all arrived and we were chatting a bit while my parents finished up breakfast. Dad called us all into the living room for prayer and told us he had something special to announce as soon as he was finished.
And this is where my boring little story takes such a lovely turn . . .
As soon as Dad finished his prayer he stated that he wanted to turn the floor over to someone who had something very special to announce. At this time we are all just looking at him like he's grown an extra head because no one knew what was going on. The way my parents couch is situated has it's back to the stairs and Allen had been standing back behind the couch where I was sitting. He begins walking around the edge of the couch and all the while saying that he's had my dad ask everyone to be here because he knows how much my family means to me and how much he wanted them to be here for this moment. It's at this very second that I look at my Dad to see that he's got this amazingly huge smile on his face, I then look at my Mom who's jaw is on the floor and I lose it. Allen continues talking and is standing in front of me while saying that I'm the only one who can put up with him the way that I do, I'm his best friend and he loves me with all his heart. Then he gets on his knee and asks me to marry him!
we had been watching youtube videos right before hand and I still had my computer in my lap!
I'm a mess by this point. I can't seem to form a rational thought or voice a thing. Next thing I know he's asking me if he needed to repeat the question. I realize that I'm still in shock and haven't managed to tell him yes so of course I say it now. "Yes I will marry you!" I grabbed him to hug and kiss him (not wanting to let him go) and didn't even think about the ring until he asked me if I would like to put it on.
seriously overwhelmed with happiness!
When he opened the ring box again I asked "Is this thing real?" Everyone had a little laugh and he slipped the ring on my finger, which was a perfect fit.
it's the most beautiful and sparkly piece of jewelry I've ever owned
As I looked around the room everyone was crying with me. My Mom was in just as much shock as I was, my brother grinned from ear to ear and my grandparents were overjoyed. We finally managed to separate from hugging and we received congratulations from everyone. It was absolutely perfect. It was amazing and overwhelming and the best thing that's happened to me!
I could not imagine a better engagement story for us and I'm so thrilled that my best friend asked me to marry him.
We all got to hear over breakfast how Allen had talked to my Dad and asked his permission weeks beforehand and how they both devised their Christmas morning scheme. I'm so pleased with both of them and feel so blessed to have the most amazing men in my life, even if they were awfully sneaky!
This was the most wonderful Christmas I could of ever imagined.
This was the most wonderful Christmas I could of ever imagined.
Allen is my dream come true and I'm so lucky to say that he is now my fiance.
This is the beginning of something wonderful!
The future Mr. and Mrs. Roberts
My Christmas miracle
