new year, new mantle

Every year I work hard at styling our mantle in a way that I can keep it for the majority of the year until I bring out my fall decor then Christmas decor.  I like to style the mantle once and keep it that way as much throughout the year as I possibly can and this year I think it's perfect!

This mantle all started the day my family left from visiting us for the weekend and my Dad helped me put this amazing mirror up where it wouldn't fall and break or hurt anyone.  It's heavy y'all!
Awhile back my cousin Kristy had just moved into her beautiful new home and was looking for the perfect piece to put over their mantle.  I suggested she check out the tutorial on The Lettered Cottage and that the mirror would look great in their home.  She and her husband eventually made the mirror using the tutorial and it's one of my favorite pieces in their home.
Last year she told me that they hadn't given us a wedding gift yet and asked me what we really wanted from our registry or to tell them something we really needed and the only thing I could think of was that I wanted a mirror like theirs.  Fast forward to right after Christmas when we all got together and they had a fun surprise for me in the back of their SUV, they had made us a mirror just like theirs.
And just to give you an idea of it's size, our mantle is over 6 feet long and from it to the ceiling is over 3 feet.  This mirror is huge!

Needless to say we are so in love with this mirror and the effect it has on our mantle.  It's the best statement piece I could ever ask for and I love that it's handmade.  Thank you Kristy & Kevin for such a priceless gift that we will cherish for a long time to come.

I love the simplicity of this! I love that each piece can sit on it's own and that it isn't overpowering like so many other mantles that you see.

Seriously, though, are you available to come and lend your interior design eye? Our home is in desperate need.
